How to Reconnect Security Cameras to a New Wi-Fi Network

If you’ve recently replaced your router or updated your Wi-Fi credentials (network name or password), your security cameras may need to be reconnected to restore live view and recording functionality. Fortunately, you don’t always need to delete or factory reset your cameras—several quick reconnection methods are available.

Methods to Reconnect Your Camera

1. Reconnect Using WPS Mode

This applies to all WPS-enabled cameras. Check your router manual to confirm WPS support.

  1. Locate the WPS button on both the router and camera (may be labeled WPS or Reset on the camera).
  2. Press and hold the camera’s WPS button for 2–3 seconds until the LED flashes blue.
  3. Press the router’s WPS button (1–6 seconds depending on model).
  4. Wait up to 2 minutes for the camera LED to turn solid green, indicating connection.

2. Reconnect Using Access Point (AP) Mode

  1. Press and hold the WPS/Reset button on the back of the camera for 5–7 seconds until the LED flashes white.
  2. On a phone, tablet, or computer, connect to the temporary Wi-Fi network named ALARM(XX:XX:XX) (last six digits match your camera’s MAC address).
  3. Open a browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.
  4. Follow on-screen steps to:
    • Scan for available Wi-Fi networks.
    • Select your Wi-Fi network.
    • Enter your Wi-Fi password.
  5. Wait for the LED to turn solid green before testing live video streaming.

3. Reconnect Using Ethernet Cable

This method works for cameras with an Ethernet port.

  1. Disconnect power from the camera.
  2. Connect an Ethernet cable from the camera to the router’s LAN port.
  3. Reconnect power and wait for the LED to turn solid green.
  4. Update the camera’s Wi-Fi settings through the setup portal or app.
  5. Power down, remove the Ethernet cable, then power back on to confirm Wi-Fi connection.

LED Troubleshooting Guide

LED Pattern Meaning Troubleshooting
Solid Green Camera has an active Internet connection If live view fails, power cycle the camera and try again.
Flashing Green Local network only, no Internet Restart the camera and router. Wait a few minutes for reconnection.
Flashing Red/Green Password error or failed Wi-Fi setup Reconnect using Ethernet method and re-enter Wi-Fi credentials.
No Light No network connection Verify power supply and cabling. Try alternate reconnection methods.

When All Else Fails

  • Verify Wi-Fi name and password by connecting another device (like a phone) to the same network.
  • Factory reset the camera and reinstall it if reconnection attempts fail.
