Google Nest Thermostat Integration with Alarm.com

Google Nest Thermostats are Wi-Fi thermostats that connect with Alarm.com; they are not Z-Wave thermostats. Any questions about installing these thermostats, adding them to a Google account, or features not available through Alarm.com should be directed to Google.

Important: All thermostat schedules must be configured using the Nest platform. This integration only allows control of the target temperature, thermostat mode, and fan mode. It does not support Alarm.com rule-based automation, Customer Website-programmed schedules, battery level reporting, or advanced configuration settings.

Connecting Alarm.com to a Google Account

Step 1: Verify the Nest Integration Add-On

Before adding a Google Nest Thermostat, ensure the Nest Integration add-on is enabled for your Dealer ID. Submit a support ticket via the Partner Portal or MobileTech to request access. Once enabled, this add-on will be available for all customer accounts.

Step 2: Update the Customer’s Service Package

The customer must have a Thermostat service package (Thermostat or Lights and Thermostat). Select NEST Integration in the add-ons and save changes.

Step 3: Connect Alarm.com with an Existing Google Account

  1. Log into the Customer Website
  2. Click Settings > Manage Devices.
  3. Select Add Device > Thermostat > Google Nest Thermostat.
  4. Click Begin Installation and enter the primary Google account login information.

Note: Only the primary Google login works for integration. Secondary logins will result in the error: “You can only connect with Nest to homes owned by you.”

Step 4: Use the Nest Thermostat in Alarm.com

After authorization, allow a few minutes for initialization before using the thermostat in the Alarm.com app. Device renaming must be done via the Nest platform.

Removing a Google Nest Thermostat

  1. Log into the Partner Portal.
  2. Find the customer account.
  3. Click Equipment > Cloud Devices.
  4. On the Google Nest card, click Logout.
