Common Z-Wave Device Trigger Actions for Enrollment and Removal
The following table lists the trigger buttons or methods for common Z-Wave devices when enrolling or removing them from a Z-Wave network. These triggers help initiate pairing or exclusion during setup.

Lights, Switches, and Energy Metering
- Plug-in Module (All Brands): Tap the button twice while plugged in.
- In-Wall Switch (All Brands): Click the top or bottom of the rocker twice.
- In-Wall Outlets: Evolve – tap twice; GE – tap once; Linear – tap once.
- Smart Energy Meter: Tap the Action/Home Energy Meter button (light stays solid 3 seconds).
- Smart Energy Switch: Tap the button once while plugged in.
- Heavy Duty Smart Switch: Tap the action button when powered.
- GoControl and Qolsys IQ Lightbulbs: Power on; the light blinks to indicate inclusion mode.
Thermostats
- Alarm.com Thermostat: Press MODE until HEAT and COOL lights are off; hold DOWN until radio icon flashes.
- Alarm.com Remote Temperature Sensor: Tap the side button once.
- Trane and RCS Thermostats: Press MENU → Z-WAVE INSTALL → SELECT → YES.
- 2GIG CT-30 / GE TSTAT-300: Press MENU → MATE twice (the word “link” appears).
- 2GIG CT-100: Press MENU → MATE twice (the word “Link” appears). Requires 2GIG panel v1.9+.
- Linear Thermostat: Press FAN until “SETUP” displays → Z-Wave → SELECT.
Locks
- Kwikset Locks: Press the A (top left) button on the inner side once.
- Yale Keyed Locks: Enter master code → press # → enter 7,#,1,#.
- Yale Key-Free Locks: Press the button with the radio icon until it beeps twice.
- Schlage BE468/469: Press SCHLAGE → enter 6-digit programming code → press 0.
- Schlage FE599: Enter 6-digit programming code → after 3 lights and 3 beeps, press SCHLAGE → 0.
Other Devices
- Linear Garage Controller: Tap the side button.
- The Quickbox: Open with a credential, then press the blue button under the lid.
- FortrezZ or WaterCop Water Valves: Press the MODE button.
