LiftMaster Garage Devices — Installation Overview

This guide summarizes how to install LiftMaster garage solutions supported by Alarm.com and True Protection, including the MyQ Internet Gateway (with compatible MyQ-enabled openers or the MyQ Control Panel) and the MyQ Smart Garage Hub.

Service Package: Ensure the customer account includes Garage Door & Gate Control and LiftMaster Integration before attempting to register devices.

Option A — MyQ Internet Gateway with a MyQ-Enabled Opener

1) Connect the MyQ Internet Gateway to the Router

  • Connect Ethernet from router to the gateway.
  • Connect power to the gateway.
  • When online, the gateway’s green LED turns solid. If it keeps blinking, check power, router, and cabling.
  • Record the gateway serial number for registration.

2) Register the MyQ Internet Gateway to the Account

Important: If the gateway is already registered to a MyQ/LiftMaster account, remove it there before adding to Alarm.com/True Protection.

  1. Log into the customer portal (True Protection → Settings → Manage Devices → Add Device).
  2. Select Garage Door → MyQ Internet Gateway, then Register Gateway.
  3. Enter the gateway serial number and continue.
  4. Put the gateway in learn mode when prompted, then follow the wizard to add the opener.
  5. Return to the Garage page and select Check for New Devices if needed.

Option B — MyQ Internet Gateway + MyQ Control Panel (828LM + 888LM/889LM)

1) Install the MyQ Control Panel

Safety: Disconnect power to the opener before wiring.
  1. Remove the existing wall control (label R/W polarity).
  2. Move wires to the new MyQ Control Panel and mount it.
  3. Restore power. The yellow command LED and red learn LED blink while charging; yellow turns solid when ready.
  4. Press the push bar to test the opener.

2) Connect the MyQ Internet Gateway to the Router

  • Connect Ethernet and power.
  • Confirm solid green LED when online.
  • Record the serial number.

3) Register Gateway & Learn the Control Panel

  1. In the portal, verify the service package add-ons, then go to Equipment → LiftMaster → Add Gateway and enter the serial number.
  2. Use Add Device (learn mode) on the gateway; yellow LED turns on.
  3. At the MyQ Control Panel, press the Learn button twice (panel’s red LED turns on; gateway LED turns blue when learned).
  4. Click Update Device List & Statuses to refresh equipment.

Option C — LiftMaster MyQ Smart Garage Hub (821LM / 821LMB / 821LMC-S / MyQ-G0301)

1) Mount the Door Sensor & Hub

Door Sensor: Mount vertically on the top door panel (inside). It uses a CR2450 battery and reports low battery around ~7,000 cycles (approx. 10,000 cycles to depletion). Bluetooth range ~30 ft to the hub.

Mount the door sensor before connecting the hub to the account.

Hub: Ceiling-mount the bracket near (but not too close to) the opener, keeping clear Wi-Fi line-of-sight. Slide the hub on the bracket and connect AC power. Ensure the hub’s strobe is visible from the garage entry.

2) Connect the Hub to Wi-Fi

LED reference: Blinking Blue = setup; Solid Blue = setup active; Solid Green = connected; Yellow = programming.

Method 1: Using a Phone/PC

  1. With Blue LED blinking, connect to the MyQ-nnn SSID (nnn = last 3 serial digits).
  2. Browse to setup.myqdevice.com (or setup.myqhome.com / 192.168.0.1), enter home Wi-Fi credentials.
  3. When LED turns solid green, Wi-Fi is set.

Method 2: WPS

  1. Press the hub’s WPS; then press the router’s WPS within 1 minute.
  2. Green LED indicates success.

Method 3: Bluetooth (iPhone)

  1. Enable Bluetooth, select MyQ-nnn, and allow the phone to share Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Green LED confirms success.

3) Connect the Hub to the Account

  1. Confirm the hub’s LED is solid green.
  2. Log in → Settings → Manage Devices → Add Device → Garage Door → MyQ Smart Garage Hub.
  3. Follow the prompts (you’ll need the hub serial number). Enroll door sensor when prompted.

MyQ Wi-Fi Openers (Built-In Wi-Fi)

1) Connect the Opener to Wi-Fi

  • Press/release the yellow Learn button 2–3 times to enter Wi-Fi setup (blue LED flashes; 20-minute window).
  • Connect a phone/PC to the temporary MyQ- network and browse to setup.myqdevice.com to join home Wi-Fi.

2) Register to the Account

  1. Verify required add-ons, then use the portal or customer site to add the opener.
  2. Enter the correct MyQ serial number (not the Product S/N).
  3. If it doesn’t appear immediately, use Get/Update Equipment List and retry.

Erase/Reset (for Troubleshooting)

  • Gateway: Use learn mode timeouts or power cycle, then re-attempt Add Device; move to a known-good Ethernet port if needed.
  • Smart Garage Hub – Erase Wi-Fi: Press/hold the Wi-Fi button until only Blue LED blinks.
  • Smart Garage Hub – Erase Door Sensors: Press/hold Button 1 or 2 until Yellow LED turns off.
