Configure cross zoning on a 2GIG GC3

On the 2GIG GC3, zones 99 and 100 can be configured to be cross zones.

Cross zoning helps with false alarm reduction and unnecessary police dispatches. Typically, cross zoning is used with a motion sensor in a high traffic area combined with either a second motion sensor or a contact sensor nearby. This setup allows it so that if the motion sensor detected a non-human motion event and triggered a false alarm, the monitoring station would not dispatch. If the door or window opened and the motion sensor activated within the same minute or two, it is more likely a real alarm.

For example:

  • If one zone (with cross zoning enabled on zone attributes) is activated, it will not send an alarm to the monitoring station, but if both zones (that have cross zoning enabled) are activated before the cross zone timer expires, it will trigger an alarm.
  • If this second zone is not triggered during the cross zone timer period, the event Cross Zone Not Verified is sent to the monitoring station, letting them know that one zone tripped but not both. This is a non-alarm event forwarded to the monitoring station.

Note: CO and Fire Zones cannot be used in zones 99 and 100 as cross zones.
