LiftMaster Device Malfunction — What to Check
A LiftMaster device can show Malfunction if the MyQ Smart Garage Hub or Internet Gateway goes offline, or if the opener fails to update its status to Alarm.com. Use the guide below to troubleshoot and restore functionality.
1) Confirm What’s in Malfunction
Via Partner Portal
- Log in → Equipment → LiftMaster.
- Devices showing issues will display Status = Malfunction.
Via MobileTech
- Log in → Equipment → LiftMaster Devices.
- Devices in malfunction will display a red indicator next to their name.
2) If the Hub or Gateway Is Malfunctioning
- Check Internet: Confirm the hub or gateway has an active internet connection (solid connection LED).
- Wi-Fi Signal: If it’s on Wi-Fi, ensure a strong 2.4 GHz signal in the garage area.
- Power: Verify the hub/gateway is plugged into a working outlet.
- Compatibility: Confirm the opener is on the supported LiftMaster MyQ list.
Tip: Weak Wi-Fi can often cause offline status. Consider moving the router closer or using a Wi-Fi extender.
3) If the Garage Door Is Malfunctioning
- Manually open and close the garage door using the wall control.
- Check whether the door status updates in the Customer Website or app.
- If the status does not update, review the door sensor alignment, hub connectivity, or re-pair the opener with the MyQ hub.
Quick Fix Checklist
- Power cycle the hub/gateway and opener (unplug for 30 seconds, then reconnect).
- Rejoin Wi-Fi on the hub (erase Wi-Fi, then re-setup).
- Refresh the LiftMaster equipment list and test a door command.
